Sheriff John Everett told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio Tuesday afternoon that there was a shooting in the Welcome Hill community late Monday night.  According to the Sheriff, the shooting occured on Ridgeway Road.

Everett said that Ricky Helms allegedly shot Gary Witt, Jr., grazing him with a bullett.  The Sheriff said that there is an ongoing investigation into the incident.  At this time investigators are unsure as to the reason for the altercation.

Helms is being held in the Chattooga County Jail.  Everett said he will be charged with aggravated assault and possibly other charges after the investigation is complete.
