Last week, Showa Glove, who closed their manufacturing operations in Chattooga County but maintains corporate offices and a shipping facility in Menlo, said that they would triple production capacity to meet growing government and industrial demand for “Made in America” PPE gloves.
With facility expansions in neighboring Alabama, Showa plans to increase their domestic production of gloves to 1.2 billion by the end of this year and has an overall goal of being able to produce 2.8 billion gloves.
Showa shuttered its operations in Menlo last year while at the same time spending $35 million to expand its Fayette, Alabama manufacturing facility.
At the time of the Menlo closing, Showa cited “lower production and costs” as the reason for ceasing operations.
