Advance warning is the most powerful preparedness tool for severe weather. Every family should have multiple methods for receiving severe weather alerts, including at least one with an audible alert to wake you in the middle of the night if necessary.
There are many options for staying in touch with changing weather conditions. They include a NOAA Weather Radio: Watches and Warning issued by the National Weather Service will air on these radios; County Alert Systems.
Chattooga County government is promoting the Hyper Reach system – a free service for anyone in the county to receive emergency notifications.
So far, less than 600 people have signed up for the service, but the Chattooga County EMA is encouraging more people to take advantage of the service.
