No need to rush out and buy bread and milk, but the word “snow” is in the forecast for our area for the first time this season.

After several days of warm weather, including temperatures in the 70’s on Thanksgiving Day, things will be changing as we head into the first of next week and into the month of December.  Today, we will see clearing skies across Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama and a good amount of sunshine as we head to a high in the low to mid 60’s.  Sunday, clouds will roll back in and we are facing an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

As the rain moves out on Monday, temperatures will be noticeably colder.  Monday’s high temperature will struggle to make it into the upper 40’s, and Monday night there could be enough residual moister to give us a few snow showers.

Channel 12 Meteorologist Patrick Core tells WZQZ listeners that the event won’t be anything major, just a chance to see a few snow flurries or possibly snow showers overnight on Monday into Tuesday – the first day of December.

The National Weather Service says that those in higher elevations could see those snow showers on Monday start around 5 PM.

One thing is for sure, we will see the overnight temperatures much colder than they have been so far this year.  Next week, we will have overnight low temperatures in the low 20’s and highs will only be in the 40’s and 50’s.
