James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park is set to transform into an inspiring outdoor art studio on Saturday, August 23rd, inviting high school students to unleash their creativity during the “Paint and Pop” art contest. This unique event offers young artists the exciting chance to capture the park’s scenic beauty, with the added incentive of potentially having their masterpieces displayed at the Georgia State Capitol.

The “Paint and Pop” program, commencing at 11:00 AM, is completely free to participate in, though a $5 park pass is required per vehicle for entry into the park. Designed for students in 9th through 12th grades, the contest challenges participants to translate the park’s landscapes onto canvas. All necessary art supplies will be provided by the park, ensuring everyone has the tools they need to create.

“We are incredibly excited to host ‘Paint and Pop’ and see the talent of our local high school students,” said a park representative. “This is a fantastic opportunity for young artists not only to express themselves in a beautiful natural setting but also to gain incredible exposure with the chance to have their work showcased at the Georgia State Capitol.”

To ensure a quality experience for all, registration is required, and only one entry will be accepted per person. Spots are limited, so early registration is highly encouraged.

Participants with any food allergies are urged to call the park office ahead of time to make necessary arrangements.
