New Years Day proved to be a wet messy day, and it wasn’t a good day for a county worker who’s garbage truck broke down on Highway 48 between Menlo and Fish Hatchery Road on Saturday afternoon, slowing down traffic on Highway 48.

Chattooga County Public Works Director Lamar Canada told AM 1180 that the drive-shaft fell out of the truck.  Two Chattooga County deputies stood in the rain and directed traffic while a tow-truck was brought in to pull the truck to a safer spot on Highway 48.  While most folks had New Years Day off work, county sanitation workers were working the first day of the year.
