A magnitude 2.0 earthquake was reported 5 miles northwest of Trion in Walker County on Wednesday night. The small tremor was recorded at 10:02 PM according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The government agency considers an earthquake of that magnitude to be a “minor” earthquake. Northwest Georgia lies in the Eastern Tennessee seismic zone which is one of the most active earthquake in the Southeast. The largest earthquake recorded in the Eastern Tennessee seismic zone happened on April 29, 2003. It was a 4.6 earthquake that happened near Menlo, Georgia.
