The Rome-Floyd Fire Department responded to a small fire at Winthrop Senior Living, 10 Highway 411, Rome, Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m.

Residents and staff were evacuated after what initial reports indicated appeared to be an air condition unit caught fire in the main lobby.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and set up fans to help ventilate the smoke.
