On Friday the National Weather Service in Peachtree City alerted EMA directors across North Georgia that there is potential for winter precipitation beginning on Sunday evening and going through Thursday morning of next week.

The greatest chance for measurable snowfall is in our part of the state and the Northeast part of the state, but snow could extend as far south as Atlanta.  Right now the best chance for snow appears to be on Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, but we could see some winter precipitation on Sunday night into Monday morning as well.

Monitor the weather for the next 24-36 hours as forecasters fine-tune their predictions.  Forecasting snow in the South is a tricky business, and the most trustworthy estimates are usually not available more than 24 hours before the event.  What we do know is that we will have favorable conditions for winter precipitation the first part of the week.
