Soldier with local ties dies serving in Iraq….Sgt. William E. Allmon was due to return home this summer from his 2nd tour in Iraq…, Born in Floyd County Sgt. Allmon was killed in combat in Iraq over the weekend, The Department of Defense announced this on Monday…25 years of age and a resident of Ardmore, Okla., died Saturday in Baghdad of wounds received when his vehicle encountered improvised explosive device…., assigned to the 1st battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, and 3rd Infantry Division, of Ft. Stewart and seved as a combat engineer…Allmon had been in Iraq, this 2nd time since May of 2007 and was scheduled to return home this summer….He is survived by his wife Jennifer,  a 3 year old son Damien,  a stepson Jason, all of Chattooga County, father William Allmon of Cartersville, Mother Donna Fortune of Guyton, Grandfather Leonard Allmon of Lindale and grandparents Billy and Joann Phillips of Cedartown
