Officials from the Chattooga County Water District announced on Friday that the Butler Dairy Road well (Well 7) tested positive for E. coli contamination, prompting a boil water advisory.  As of Sunday evening, the boil water advisory remains in place.

The affected well serves customers in the Gore-Subligna and Silver Hill areas, as well as those in the Holland and Chattoogaville regions. In response to the contamination, officials issued a boil water advisory, instructing residents in these areas to boil their water before consumption or cooking until further notice. The advisory was implemented as a precautionary measure.
As of Sunday, tests confirmed that Well 7 continued to show positive results for E. coli.  Chattooga County Water Superintendent Eugene Cordell stated that additional tests were being conducted on the well, with results expected to be available by Monday; but Cordell indicated that the boil water advisory is unlikely to be lifted before Tuesday at the earliest.
Residents are advised that this boil water advisory is for customers of the Chattooga County Water District, in the specific areas listed,  and does not extend to those receiving water from the Summerville, Trion, Menlo, Lyerly, or Fort Payne City water systems.
