… LIGHT FREEZING RAIN REMAINS POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL GEORGIA THROUGH MID MORNING…

PATCHY LIGHT RAIN OVER NORTHEAST ALABAMA WILL GRADUALLY MOVE INTO NORTHWEST GEORGIA EARLY THIS MORNING… THEN SPREAD ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF NORTH GEORGIA THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE ALREADY BELOW FREEZING FOR MANY LOCATIONS ACROSS NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL GEORGIA THIS MORNING… AND THEREFORE THE LIGHT RAIN COULD FREEZE ON IMPACT. TEMPERATURES COULD HOVER NEAR FREEZING IN MANY OF THESE AREAS UNTIL AROUND 10 AM EST THIS MORNING.

THE MAIN THREAT AREA IS GENERALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM CEDARTOWN THROUGH CANTON TO CLEVELAND. DUE TO THE LIMITED MOISTURE AND VERY LIGHT RAIN… LITTLE TO NO SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. HOWEVER… IF FREEZING RAIN DOES DEVELOP… THERE WILL BE NUMEROUS SLICK SPOTS DUE TO THIN ICE ON ROADS… BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES… MAKING THE MORNING COMMUTE VERY HAZARDOUS.

IF ANY PRECIPITATION DEVELOPS IN THESE AREAS THIS MORNING… ASSUME ICE IS FORMING ON ROADWAYS AND DRIVE ACCORDINGLY. THE THIN ICE… OR BLACK ICE… WILL NOT BE VERY NOTICEABLE UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE. MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO USE EXTREME CAUTION AND SLOW DOWN.
