All eastbound lanes on Highway 53 as well as northbound lanes on I-75 were at a standstill on Wednesday after a hazardous truck carrying organic acid spilled the material out onto the road. Authorities said that close to 150 gallons leaked on the Hwy 53 Bridge. According to police the material leaked for close to a mile. No injuries were reported.

According to Marion Environmental Group Inc., the acid is only hazardous in large quantities of direct contact.

The driver of the truck was transporting the good from Rome to Melrose Park, Illinois.

Authorities said that unless the inspection of the truck turns up negligence, no charges are expected.
