Robert Timothy Spriggs, 29 of Rome, was sentenced to life without parole plus 135 years in prison after pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, to killing his ex-girlfriend’s father almost three years ago. Spriggs was sentenced for malice murder, felony murder, several counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment among numerous others. Spriggs shot and killed 46 year-old John Gregory Davis at his Old Dalton Road home in November 2009. He also shot another relative of his ex-girlfriend at their home in West Rome.

Spriggs was diagnosed as bipolar as well as suffering post traumatic stress disorder from watching someone commit suicide while he was in the military by Psychologist Dr. Shelley Prisco.

Spriggs was discharged under honorable condition from the Air Force after it was reported he was huffing in-dust for electronic equipment.

The shooting spree ended close to the Clinton Road home after he was talked into turning himself in by Sheriff Tim Burkhalter.
