The head of a Georgia state agency quietly resigned after he was arrested and charged with shoplifting from a hardware store.

In August, the resignation of former Georgia Forestry Commission director Chuck Williams was announced and Governor Kemp named a interim director.

Now it has come to light that Williams, a former state legislator, was arrested for shoplifting in Gray, Georgia after he switched the price on a saw at a hardware store.   He then used a credit card to buy the more expensive saw — valued at $109.99 — for the cheaper saw’s price of $55.99 and left the store in a state-owned vehicle.

Williams salary as Director of the Forestry Commission was $165,000 per year.

According to the arresting officer, Williams said that he had shoplifted in a similar manner before “for the thrill.”
