Chattooga County State Court Judge Jon Dennis tells WZQZ News that he plans to qualify this week for the position he has held for the past eight-years.

The state court judge position is a part-time job and not every county in Georgia has the position. The State Courts of Georgia were created by predesignating certain county courts of limited jurisdiction. These courts exercise jurisdiction over all misdemeanor violations and all civil action except in cases were the Superior Courts have exclusive jurisdiction.

Judge Dennis told WZQZ News, “I plan to qualify to run for my third time term as Chattooga County State Court Judge. The last few years have been daunting with COVID presenting problems to all areas in America and the world, including the judicial system. These challenges were unanticipated eight years ago. But I thank all of Chattooga for giving me the opportunity to serve you. I am looking forward to this coming election and, with the support of my county, another four years.”

Judge Dennis was first elected in 2014 in a hotly contested race against Sam Finster.  Dennis won that race with 57% of the vote.  Dennis was reelected in 2018 with no opposition.

The state court race is nonpartisan.
