Jack Zibluk, candidate for Georgia Senate District 53, addressed the Chattooga County Democratic Party at its regular meeting on Monday, July 21, outlining his path to running for office, his background, and his legislative priorities.
Zibluk, a communications professor, emphasized his commitment to being a responsive and attentive legislator, stating, “I will be a legislator who listens to the people. The needs of Chattooga will differ from the needs of Walker or Dade or other counties. I don’t hold a set agenda and will investigate the problems that people present to me. I don’t approach the office thinking I know all the answers already. I’m here to respond and serve the people.”
When asked about his top legislative issues, Zibluk highlighted several key areas he plans to champion at the state level. These include addressing the need for law enforcement officers to make mental health referrals, expanding internet coverage in rural areas, and fostering economic and regional development. “I plan to take these issues it to the state level and see what can be done for us,” he added.
Zibluk’s campaign slogan, “Let’s build bridges, not burn them,” reflects his overarching approach to governance. He expressed a desire to encourage a return to a more collaborative style of legislating, where elected representatives work together for the collective good of all citizens, something he noted was more common in the past.
Zibluk resides in Lookout Mountain and, if elected, would represent Georgia House District 53, which encompasses Chattooga, Dade, Walker, Catoosa, and portions of Floyd counties.
