State Senator Lanny Thomas met with local and state officials in Summerville to discuss ongoing flooding concerns near Bryant and Sons and other areas of the city.

Thomas, who represents Georgia Senate District 53, said the meeting included Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Grant Waldrop, Landon Bryant of Bryant and Sons, Summerville City Manager Jason Winters, and Summerville Mayor Rickey Hughes.

The group reviewed the flooding conditions near Bryant and Sons and discussed possible solutions to improve drainage in the area. According to Mayor Hughes, GDOT crews are expected to inspect the drainage tile using camera equipment in hopes of identifying blockages or other problems contributing to the flooding.

The section of Commerce Street near Bryant and Sons has experienced repeated flooding during periods of heavy rainfall. City officials have previously said drainage infrastructure associated with the state-owned railroad property may be contributing to the problem.

Thomas said officials are committed to working together to address the flooding near Bryant and Sons, as well as similar drainage problems in other areas of Summerville.

“One of the greatest responsibilities of serving as your State Senator is being available when our communities need help,” Thomas said.

He added that he would continue working with local and state officials to pursue a lasting solution.
