Arrested Chattooga County Investigator Matt Hayes remained in the Dekalb County Alabama Jail in Fort Payne Saturday night. A bond hearing has not been held, according to officials at the jail who said a bond hearing must be held within 72 hours of Hayes’s arrest. Hayes was booked into the jail Thursday night. That means a bond hearing will have to be held sometime today.
The Sheriff's Department Investigator was arrested Thursday night on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug related objects. He is alleged to have pulled a gun on two people in DeKalb County Alabama and is reported to have had suspected cocaine and hydrocodone in his possession when arrested in his Sheriff's Department vehicle.
Officials are concerned those drugs came from the sheriff's department's evidence room. Not only is Hayes an investigator for the Sheriff's Department but he is also the evidence custodian.
The Sheriff was expected to have asked the GBI to help out in the investigation. No word yet on if that has happened.
