A Summerville teen was arrested for stealing a can of Pringle’s potato chips and some beef jerky from a convenience store, according to a report from the Summerville Police Department.
According to the report, an officer received a call on his personal cell phone about a shoplifting incident that had taken place at the Circle K on Commerce Street. The officer radioed another officer in the area who stopped the vehicle the suspect was in at the Gyro Car Wash.
Officers say that they observed the opened package of beef jerky and a half a container of alcohol in the back seat where the suspect was sitting. The suspect first told officers that he had paid for the items, then quickly changed his story and offered to go back and pay the convenience store for the stolen items. Officers observed a strong smell of alcohol on the suspect and the driver of the vehicle identified the container of alcohol as belonging to the suspect.
Seventeen-year-old William Shane Douglas Johnson was booked into the Chattooga County jail on charges of shoplifting, public consumption of alcohol, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, possession of alcohol by a minor and open container of alcohol.
