Downed trees and downed power lines were still being dealt with on Saturday after strong storms ripped through Northeast Alabama and Northwest Georgia on Friday. Several hundred Chattooga County residents were still without power on Saturday morning – including both Georgia Power and North Georgia EMC customers.
The National Weather Service says that winds between 45-55 miles per hour caused most of the damage. In neighboring DeKalb County, Alabama, officials said that a tornado was on the ground on Friday afternoon in the Dutton area on Sand Mountain. There was also widespread damage in neighboring Floyd County, Georgia.
Berry College officials were busy on Saturday cleaning up from the storm damage, but say that while there were trees downed all around the nest of Bald Eagles, the Bald Eagles were not harmed during the storm.
Most of the power outages in the area were expected to be restored by Saturday evening.
