Wednesday’s commute was a nightmare for many around Chattooga County.  Residents who work in Floyd County or beyond were basically "trapped" in their vehicles.  AM 1180 heard from several who had to spend the night in Rome because of icy road conditions.

The Georgia State DOT closed Taylors Ridge on Highway 27 causing a backup on either side of the ridge.   The route re-opened late Wednesday evening after being heavily salted by DOT.  There were several wrecks reported on Highway 27 in Chattooga County.

AM 1180 had reports of stranded motorists on Highway 48 between Menlo and Mentone, Alabama.  We spoke with some of the stranded folks at the state line.  One man from South Carolina said "I was listening to sattelite radio and didn’t even realize there was a problem until my car’s windshield began icing up."

Another teen age young man had spun out into a ditch within sight of the Chattooga County line.  He attempted to get a tow-truck to pull him out – but Alabama DOT had closed Highway 117- tow trucks could not come pull him out.  Around 7 or 8 people were huddled inside a store waiting on pizza and wandering just how they would get home.
