Summerville’s youngest gridiron standouts are heading back to Tifton with a state title on the line. The Summerville 8U and 12U football teams will play for the GRPA State Championship in Tifton, Georgia, this Saturday, December 13, after strong regional victories this past weekend—also in Tifton.
GRPA stands for the Georgia Recreation and Park Association, a statewide organization that supports community recreation departments and organizes youth sports programs and championship tournaments across Georgia. For local teams, making a GRPA state title game is a major accomplishment, reflecting weeks of work from players, coaches, and families.
The Summerville 8U team powered through regional play with a 60-19 win over Thomasville in game one, then battled to a dramatic 12-6 overtime victory over Liberty County in game two. That win punched their ticket to the state championship matchup against Glynn County.
The Summerville 12U team also delivered a statement weekend, defeating Sumter County 28-6 in game one and then shutting out Peach County 34-0 in game two to advance to the state championship game against Union City.
The Summerville Recreation Department is asking the community to rally behind these young athletes as they represent Summerville on a statewide stage. Supporters are encouraged to cheer them on, share words of encouragement, and help lift up the players and families making the trip for championship weekend.
