With the recent vote by the Summerville City Council to begin the process of issuing licenses for packaged liquor stores in the city limits, the City of Summerville is advertising the application process.

In last week’s local paper, the City of Summerville said that they will begin accepting applications for retail sales of liquor beginning on Thursday, July 28, 2022.  The application process will remain open until August 11, 2022.  Anyone interested in putting in an application for the license, should go by the Summerville City Hall.

A copy of the local ordinance will be available with the application.  Only two stores will be granted a license. The council will be requiring that each of the two stores stock $350,000 worth of booze.

Originally, they had talked about requiring a half-million dollars in inventory for each store.

Also, the stores will be paying a $5,000 per year liquor license fee – more if they want to sell beer and wine as well. Some have criticized the council for such steep requirements saying it shuts smaller business people out of the race for the two licenses that will be granted by a lottery system.
