Hometown Headlines in Rome is reporting that Summerville businessman William Benefield has purchased the main building in what is known as the “Cotton Block” in downtown Rome. The building sale was listed at $3.3 million – the most expensive downtown Rome real estate deal on record.
Benefield also purchased the former Partridge Restaurant on Broad Street in Rome. Benefield told WZQZ News that the he plans to revive the former restaurant location as a venue that can be rented for special events.
Benefield has purchased multiple buildings in downtown Summerville and has facilitated several independent shops and businesses in the area.
The building Benefield purchased in Rome was built in 1901 and has over 10,000 square feet of space on the first floor.
