The Summerville City Council held their January meeting on Monday of this week and discussed the possibility of expanding water lines to an area between Summerville and Menlo that is not served by the county, or any municipal water source.

A tourist accommodation is wanting to install some overnight rental “yurts” and is asking that the City of Summerville expand it’s water service from Echols Road to Garvin Road.   The city is looking at the project and also considering the possibility of a joint venture with the Chattooga County Water District to provide the service.  The total cost would be around $12,000.   Garvin Road runs between McWhorter Road and Echols Road just outside of Menlo.

Another water project will not likely be funded.  That project has a price tag of over $150,000 to serve ten homes on Cox Road in the Berryton area.

Also the city council decided to table a motion to build new batting cages at the old tennis court.  That project is slated to cost over $28,000 and council members said that they wanted more information about the project before approving the funds.
