Downtown Summerville is getting a jump start on the spooky season today, Saturday, October 25th, as it hosts its annual Pumpkin Palooza and Halloween Candy Walk. Despite Halloween itself being a week away, the community is invited to enjoy a full day of autumn delights and Halloween thrills, courtesy of Summerville Main Street and the Summerville Trion Optimist Club.
The festivities will take place along the East Washington Streetscape all the way to the Summerville Depot. The Pumpkin Palooza, which began at 10:30 a.m., will continue until 3:00 p.m., offering a vibrant marketplace experience. Attendees can explore a wide array of vendors offering delicious foods, unique crafts, and various retail items, perfect for early holiday shopping or finding a special fall treat.
A highly anticipated moment will be the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum passenger train at 1:00 p.m., adding a touch of nostalgic charm to the bustling event.
For the younger set, the Youth Halloween Costume Contest is a major highlight. Registration for the contest, open to ages newborn through 12, began at 11:15 a.m. inside the Open-air Pavilion, with judging kicking off promptly at 11:30 a.m. Children are encouraged to showcase their most creative and spooky attire for a chance to win prizes.
And what’s Halloween without candy? Local merchants and organizations are participating in the Halloween Candy Walk, distributing treats to eager trick-or-treaters throughout the event, ensuring plenty of sweets for everyone.
As the sun begins to set, the Halloween spirit will transition to “The Night Of The Jack-O’-Lanterns” at The Couey House. From 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy a magical display of carved pumpkins, providing a glowing and memorable conclusion to a day of fall celebrations.
Whether you’re looking for unique crafts, delicious food, or just a fun-filled family outing, downtown Summerville’s early Halloween celebration promises a day of community spirit and autumn joy.
