The City of Summerville has been purchasing water from the Town of Trion to supply drinking water to Hays State Prison, but the city has been losing around $3,600 per month since the agreement with Trion was reached.

Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey said that the water is costing the City of Summerville around $5 per thousand gallons.  Harvey said that the Chattooga County Water District is selling water to the city at a discounted price, but Trion is not.  The county is selling water to Summerville at $1.72 per thousand gallons.

Under the contract with Hays State Prison, the City of Summerville sells the Georgia Department of Correction water for $3.98 per thousand.

The City of Summerville is looking to try to recoup some of the loss from the Department of Corrections and the possibility of renegotiating the contract with the prison.
