The Summerville Police Department responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Fulmer Street last week, which involved threats and property damage.

Shortly after midnight last Wednesday, Summerville Police arrived at the scene following a dispatch call concerning a potential firearm involved in the altercation. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Lonnie Smith, who reported that his son, Jacob Smith, had returned home heavily intoxicated and forcibly entered the house by breaking down a door. According to Mr. Smith, an argument ensued between Jacob and his parents, during which Jacob made threats to harm both Lonnie and Tonya Smith, as well as threatening his own daughter.

Witnesses reported that Jacob began to aggressively remove pictures from the walls, causing damage to several frames, as well as vandalizing other property, including a grill and a decorative wreath. Lonnie Smith clarified that his son does not reside at the family home, but typically stays on weekends. He added that he and his wife have custody of Jacob’s daughter and were in the process of seeking a Temporary Protective Order (TPO) against him.

Following the confrontation, Jacob Smith was arrested without incident and taken into custody at the Chattooga County Jail. He was not found to be in possession of any firearms at the time of his arrest.
