A thirty-eight-year-old Summerville man was arrested last week at a checkpoint set up by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, deputies detected a faint smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle driven by James Bearden of a Rocky Hollow Road, Summerville address.  After a probable cause search, deputies found several joints of marijuana in a cigarette package and two firearms, along with ammunition, inside the vehicle.

Bearden was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and expired registration.  Beardon had a previous conviction for manufacture of methamphetamine.
