A Summerville man was arrested for battery under the Family Violence Act after several arguments led to visible bruising on a womans arms and face.

On July 7th, Summerville Police Officers received a call from dispatch stating that a home health nurse had contacted them regarding one of her patients. The female had been messaging the nurse stating that she was scared that her boyfriend was going to kill her. The nurse had visited the female that day and had observed bruises all over her body. The nurse also stated that the female patient told her that the boyfriend had pushed her out of her wheelchair 3 times and had pulled her hair so hard it made it difficult to breath.

Arriving at the residence listed Officers met with the female victim who was visibly upset with noticeable bruises on her arm and face along with small lacerations near her ear as well as on her stomach. Officers spoke with the victim privately who told them that the male, identified as Robert Wofford, had not physically hit her that day but that he had been physically abusing her all the week before. The victim also stated that Wofford had grabbed her small dog by its throat and had began choking it while they were in the car earlier. The victim also reiterated what the nurse had told dispatch that Wofford had pushed her out of her wheelchair and also pulled her hair very hard. The victim stated that Wofford was on drugs, primarily Methamphetamine and she was very scared of him.

Speaking with Wofford, he denied ever hitting the victim but told Officers that the bruises were from the victim falling out of her wheelchair and him helping her back into it. Wofford did admit to grabbing the dog, but said it was because it was in his way. After speaking with both parties again, Officers placed Wofford under arrest for battery under the Family Violence act. Wofford was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident. The victims sister arrived on scene to stay and did document the bruising and lacerations.
