A Summerville man, identified as Michael Wright Jr., was arrested early Saturday morning on multiple drug charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, after a traffic stop on Marvin Avenue.
According to a police report, at approximately 1:07 AM on June 21st, an officer observed a silver 2013 Chevrolet Equinox failing to maintain a single lane while traveling eastbound on Marvin Avenue. The vehicle, registered to a person in Lafayette, was pulled over in the parking lot of the Circle K at the north end of town. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer allegedly observed a white, crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, under Wright’s seat as he reached for his driver’s license. The report further states that Wright appeared to be attempting to break a large shard of the same substance in his hands before being handcuffed. A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly revealed a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine in the driver’s seat and floorboard, as well as three clear, unused plastic baggies in Wright’s pockets. Police found additional suspected methamphetamine on the passenger side floorboard and inside a black cylinder bottle containing liquid. The vehicle’s registration was found to be canceled, and it had no valid insurance. It was towed by Gill’s Wrecker service and placed on hold. The suspected methamphetamine scattered in the parking lot could not be retrieved and was washed away.
The recovered suspected methamphetamine was weighed at the Summerville Police Department, with the total weight estimated at 28.8 grams, excluding the liquid methamphetamine. The officer stated in the report, that based on their training and experience, the amount of suspected methamphetamine was indicative of distribution, due to the amount of substance and presence of individual plastic baggies. Wright was transported to the Chattooga County Jail and is facing multiple drug possession and drug distribution charges.
After being booked into the jail, Wright requested an officer to come talk to him. Wright admitted to a responding officer that he was selling drugs in order to pay for repairs to his truck. He also provided officers with information about the vehicle he was driving and who he was selling drugs to.
