A Summerville man was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and refusing to exit his vehicle during a traffic stop on Montgomery Street. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, an officer was on routine patrol at approximately 10:03 p.m. on July 30th when a white 2017 Ford F350 was observed failing to maintain its lane by crossing over the double yellow line on Montgomery Street.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer made contact with the driver, identified as 58-year-old Danny Pair. The officer noted that Pair’s shirt was unbuttoned, he was sweating excessively, his eyes appeared bloodshot and drowsy, and his speech was slow, thick, and slurred. These observations led the officer to suspect Pair was possibly under the influence of a narcotic. Pair was unable to locate his driver’s license but advised the officer that his truck’s registration was suspended, stating he had recently received a ticket for the same offense.

When asked to exit the vehicle, Pair claimed he was disabled and couldn’t comply. The officer, having prior knowledge of Pair’s ability to walk and stand, questioned how he had managed to get groceries, which were visible from a Dollar General store. During the interaction, the officer observed an empty green medication bottle in the door frame, labeled Hydrocodone, prescribed to Danny Pair. When questioned, Pair admitted to taking three Hydrocodone pills at 12 p.m. that day, despite warning labels advising against operating machinery after consumption.

Despite multiple requests and verbal commands to exit the vehicle for further investigation, Pair allegedly refused, telling the officer to “get a warrant.” Based on field sobriety test results, Pair was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs. He continued to resist, and officers, including Officer Jacob Pledger, had to physically remove him from the vehicle and carry him to the patrol car.

A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded no additional findings. Pair was read the implied consent for a blood draw but refused to provide a sample.

Pair was transported to the Chattooga County Jail.
