A routine traffic stop on Scoggins Street took a dramatic turn when a Summerville man, identified as Casey Parish, fled from officers on foot, leaving behind a vehicle containing a rifle and marijuana.

The incident began around 4:30 PM on September 20, when a Summerville Police Officer observed a silver Ford Fusion traveling northbound on Scoggins Street fail to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Kelly Street. Officer Sainthill initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Kelly Street and Ramey Street.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer identified the driver as Casey Parish and the front-seat passenger as Brooklyn Brown. While speaking with Parish about the traffic violation, the officer requested his driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance. A subsequent check through Chattooga County 911 dispatch revealed an active arrest warrant for Parish.

When informed of the warrant and asked to exit the vehicle, Parish abruptly fled on foot, heading northbound on Ramey Street. Officers immediately pursued on foot, broadcasting the foot pursuit over the radio and requesting additional units. Another police officer arrived on scene to assist.

Parish ran into a wooded area adjacent to neighboring properties, and officers lost visual contact. A perimeter was established, and a grid search of the wooded area and nearby properties was conducted by multiple units. The search concluded without locating Parish, and the pursuit was terminated at approximately 10:45 PM.

During the subsequent search of the Ford Fusion, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. A probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a bolt-action Smith & Wesson .243 Winchester rifle located on the rear passenger floorboard, along with approximately 59 rounds of .243 Winchester ammunition on the front passenger-side floorboard. Additionally, officers recovered a partially smoked marijuana cigarette found inside a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, and a marijuana blunt from the passenger-side visor compartment.

Brooklyn Brown was issued a misdemeanor citation for Possession of Marijuana Less Than One Ounce and released on scene with a court date. The vehicle, registered to Ms. Brown, was released to her. Casey Parish is facing charges on the active arrest warrant, and additional charges related to the firearm and contraband found in the vehicle.
