Summerville Police are investigating a residential theft reported last week where a local man claims a rifle and hundreds of dollars went missing after a recent overnight guest had access to his home.
Robert Wofford, of West Washington Street, contacted authorities at approximately 10:35 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2025, to report the alleged theft. According to police records, Mr. Wofford informed officers that a .30-30 caliber rifle was stolen from his residence. Additionally, he reported approximately $200.00 had been withdrawn without authorization from his Chime bank account.
Wofford identified a recent overnight guest, as an individual who may have had access to the premises during the time of the alleged incidents.
Responding officers visited the scene and conducted an initial interview with Mr. Wofford. During their visit, no direct evidence of theft was observed, and Wofford himself stated he did not witness the incidents occur.
Later, Mr. Wofford visited the Summerville Police Station to file a supplementary report, claiming an additional $200 in cash had also been stolen from his home.
Police advised Mr. Wofford that a formal report would be generated and subsequently forwarded to an investigator for further review. The investigation into the alleged thefts is ongoing.
