On Sunday, the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office was notified by a Summerville resident of damage being done to his property, adding that he needed to file a report concerning a case of criminal trespass.
Deputy John Peterson responded to the scene, where he was informed that a tree stand had been burned to the ground; the victim told the deputy, that the value of the stand was in the neighborhood of $200. There was also a large circle burned into the grass in the same area.
Deputy Peterson requested extra patrols for that area – and further contacted a Department of Natural Resources Office about the incident.
The matter remains under investigation.
