A Summerville Middle School student is on her way to competing at the state level in the VFW’s "Patriot’s Pen" essay contest. Lisbeth Osorto is the local and district level Patriot’s Pen Winner. She will now go on to compete in State and has a 1 in 7 chance of winning.
The Patriot’s Pen program is open to students in grades 6-8, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories.
The 2011-2012 Patriot’s Pen essay theme is "Are you proud of your country?". Essays are judged on knowledge of the theme, theme development and clarity of ideas and are 300 to 400 words long.
