A Summerville woman has been cited following an investigation into animal cruelty after multiple dogs were found in poor condition at a residence on Northwest Congress Street.

According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, officers were dispatched on March 26 in reference to a possible animal cruelty complaint. Upon arrival, officers observed a gray pit bull mix in a small kennel with visible ribs, indicating the dog had not been properly fed.

The report states that two additional pit bull mix dogs were found inside the home, along with a juvenile dog at the door. All of the animals were reportedly suffering from similar conditions.

Animal Control was called to the scene and evaluated the dogs. Authorities determined that the animals needed to be removed due to neglect.

The owner told officers she did not have the money to purchase food for the dogs. She was cited three times for the condition of the animals.

All of the dogs were removed from the residence by Animal Control.
