The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office recently responded to a report of an attempted scam

The complainant contacted the Sheriff’s Office and spoke with a deputy – saying that a man, who identified himself as Windows employee Brad Xavier, told her that her computer had a virus and that he needed money to fix it.

This is of course, a scam.

Never ever give out any personal information over the phone, and that includes computer user names, passwords and so on.  If someone has that information they can crack into the system and obtain personal, private information such as birthdates, social security, credit/ debit card and banking account numbers.

With that information in hand they can clean out a bank account, and run up huge bills in a very short period of time.

If you receive a similar call, simply hang up and forget about it.
