The move to allow Sunday alcohol sales was not able to garner enough votes in the Georgia Senate committee that was reviewing the bill yesterday. Backers of the bill say that the issue is not dead and that there is plenty of public support to allow Sunday liquor sales in Georgia. Georgia is one of only three states in the nation that totally bans alcohol sales on Sunday, except for food service establishments. State Senator Jeff Mullis originally came out in support of the bill, but later withdrew that support.  Mullis said that he supported the bill originally, not because he was in favor of Sunday alcohol sales, but because it put the issue in the hands of local voters.
