The Senate Committee that was looking at the bill to allow Sunday Alcohol sales in the state of Georgia failed to gather enough votes to pass the bill through committee.
Backers of the bill, including Georgia Liqour Retailers, say that there is plenty of support for the bill that would allow Sunday sales of alcohol, but would also allow the issue to be voted on in local referendums.
State Senator Jeff Mullis who represents Chattooga, Walker, Dade and Catoosa Counties in the State Senate, originally was supportive of the measure, but later withdrew that support. Mullis said that he was backing the bill because it would allow local control over the issue.
Those who support the measure say that they are committed to pushing for the legislation because of the large amount of revenue it would bring into the state and because they say there is huge public support for the measure.
