Chattooga County School Superintendent Jared Hosmer has announced his retirement. 

Hosmer started his teaching career as a middle school teacher at Menlo Elementary School in 1996.  From there, he served as assistant principal at Menlo and then as principal at Lyerly Elementary School.  Hosmer made the move to the central office as the federal programs administrator – what is known today as Title 1 Administrator.  He then served eight years as assistant school superintendent to School Superintendent Jimmy Lenderman.

In 2019, the Chattooga Board of Education appointed Hosmer as Interim Superintendent after the resignation of Mr. Lenderman, before being name Chattooga County School Superintendent.  Mr. Hosmer told WZQZ News that his last day with the county school system will be June 30, 2024.

Hosmer says that he has no firm plans after retirement, but he doesn’t have another job lined up.  Instead, he hopes to spend outside gardening and farming and doing custom tractor work.
