Woman Arrested After Alleged 911 Misuse In Menlo

A Chattooga County woman was arrested Friday after allegedly misusing the 911 system, according to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Kimberly Joy Basham was taken into custody on May 8, 2026, and charged with unlawful conduct during a 911 call.

According to the incident report, a deputy was dispatched to an address on 98 7th Avenue in Menlo after Basham called 911 requesting law enforcement assistance. While speaking with dispatch, she reportedly stated there was an emergency but did not provide details, later advising there was no emergency before hanging up.

When the responding deputy arrived, Basham allegedly stated she needed an officer to go to court with her and change her court date. She was informed that this did not constitute an emergency and was subsequently placed under arrest for unlawful conduct of 911.

Authorities say Basham was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.

Armuchee Man Charged With Cruelty To Children And Battery

An Armuchee man was arrested Sunday after police say he struck a 13-year-old child in the face.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 45-year-old Vincent Cary Herrera was arrested at his Martha Berry Highway apartment and charged with first-degree cruelty to children and battery.

Floyd County Police say Herrera hit the child, leaving a bruise and an abrasion above the victim’s left eye.

He was booked into the Floyd County Jail on the charges.

Arrest Made After Traffic Stop On Highway 27 In Chattooga County

A traffic stop on Highway 27 led to an arrest earlier this month, according to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Matt Wilson reported that on May 2, 2026, he observed a silver 1997 Toyota 4Runner traveling northbound with a tag light out near the area of Little Sand Mountain. After initiating a stop, the driver was identified as Jacobo Reynoso, 34.

According to the report, a language barrier made communication difficult, but Reynoso was ultimately determined to be driving without a valid license. Deputies also noted the vehicle’s tag light violation.

Reynoso was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chattooga County Jail.

He is charged with driving without a license and a traffic offense.
