Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Andy Allen set the county’s 2026 maintenance and operations millage rate at 7.959 mills during a meeting Friday afternoon at the Hurley Community Development Center in Summerville.

That’s down from 10.281 mills last year.

At the same time, the county’s total net tax digest has grown to more than 912 million dollars, up from about 779 million in 2025.

Even with that increase in taxable property value, the county expects to levy about 5.53 million dollars in M&O property taxes, nearly 933-thousand dollars less than last year.

Individual tax bills can still vary depending on assessments, exemptions and school taxes.
