The Summerville Fire Department is encouraging residents interested in serving their community to consider becoming volunteer firefighters.
The department recently announced that it continually accepts applications from individuals interested in joining its volunteer firefighting team.
Applicants must be United States citizens, at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, and have a valid driver’s license. The department also requires applicants to demonstrate strong moral character and a commitment to community service.
Volunteer firefighters with the Summerville Fire Department receive an annual pay-per-call check and are eligible for firefighter retirement benefits after 15 years of service.
The department says volunteering also provides valuable training and experience for individuals who may eventually want to pursue careers as full-time paid firefighters.
Volunteer firefighters play an important role in helping local fire departments respond to emergencies and protect lives and property.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter can contact the Summerville Fire Department for more information about the application process and training requirements.
