Check your mailbox.  The Chattooga County Tax Assessors say that your annual property tax assessments should be waiting for you either today, or the first part of next week.  The assessors office says that it is important that you review the property tax assessment when you receive it in the mail.

The assessments were mailed yesterday.

Property owners desiring to appeal the assessment may do so in writing within 45 days of the notice.  Appeals can be filed based on the following criteria:

• Value
• Uniformity
• Taxability
• Exemption denied
• Breach of covenant
• Denial of covenant

Appeal forms are available on the tax assessor’s website HERE.  They are also available at the tax assessor’s office in Summerville.  When you file an appeal, you should include your name, address, phone number and grounds for appeal, asserted value and if you are an agent – authorization must be provided.
