Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton wants the public to know about a web site offering online renewal services that is charging residents more than necessary. Hampton said that the web site is legitimate, but you can find the same services for less money on the state-run website.
Hampton said, “It has come to my attention that there is a website offering online renewals for vehicle tags that is not affiliated with the State of Georgia.”
“While it is a legitimate site (you will receive your stickers in the mail), this site is charging more than $40 above what a customer will pay in office, by mail, or through Georgia Department of Revenue’s website.”
The tax commissioner added, “To be safe, I want to remind our citizens to always use the Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s website to ensure you are in the right place. www.chattoogatax.com has links to online property tax searches and payments, as well as online vehicle renewals. The company that contracts with the state does charge convenience fees, but they are much cheaper than what is found on other sites. Again, the website for my office is www.chattoogatax.com.”
