Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding property owners that most tax bills are due on March 1, 2024.  The tax commissioner says there is an exception to that deadline for those who have appealed their property taxes.  Those taxpayers have a due date of 60 days after the appeal was finalized.

If the property is still under appeal, property owners can still pay their bill.  Tax Commissioner Hampton says, “We are in the process of manually entering the correct numbers for temporary bills. Hopefully soon, all 900-plus remaining appealed properties will see their bill calculated at 100% of the value that is under appeal. If you pay this bill and your bill decreases due to your appeal, we will refund you once we receive the finished appeal from the Assessors Office.
The tax commissioner says that if your bill shows a due date other than March 1, 2024- that is your actual due date.
Tax Commissioner Hampton adds, “I understand this is such a confusing year for everyone and we’re having to do things differently than in the past- so feel free to reach out if you’d like reassurance or clarification. We’re happy to help when and where we can…we’ll get through it!”.
