While personal watercraft – often called by the brand name Jet Skis – can be thrilling to ride, an accident on one can have serious consequences. Depending on the model, Jet Skis and other personal watercraft can have top speeds of 40, 60, and even 70 mph. Riders have little to protect them from harm in case of an accident on the water. They often suffer severe injuries as a result.

A juvenile was injured on Weiss Lake over the weekend after he crashed a personal watercraft.  According to reports, the youngster was reportedly hurt when the jet ski struck a pier in the Three Mile Creek Area on Sunday evening.

Personal watercraft owners are urged to play it safe this summer on the area’s waterways and lakes.  Youngsters should be supervised and receive proper training before using personal watercraft.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, personal watercraft accidents make up around 18% of all boating accidents in the United States each year.
