Ever noticed how one thing often leads to another?
What began as a theft report turned into a drug bust for Lafayette Police last week.
Officers responded to a call from two individuals near the Alpine Package Store, on West Villanow; upon arrival they were informed that a guy referred to only as "Jimbo" had asked to borrow a flip phone – then instead of returning it, he just walked away with the phone still in hand.
"Jimbo" was quickly identified as, 44 year old James Clinton Denton, and police went to his address on Simmons Street, where they found him outside. Following a consent search, the officers found a syringe and a pill, later identified as a Schedule IV Controlled Substance but no cell phone.
Denton was charged with drug possession however he continued to deny that he had taken the phone.
Officers were unable to locate the missing phone at the scene.
